Tomorrow is Featured on Friday’s day, when I review another blog out there that I enjoy reading. I’ve already figured out who I’m going to review… so tune in tomorrow!
A parting thought: it just doesn’t feel right to have a Canadian dollar that’s worth more than a US dollar. It interferes with my inherent Canadian inferiority complex. Please, someone, knock the @#$% out of the value of the Canadian dollar!
Thank you.
PS (written later in the evening) - I learned a bit about crop circles tonight. I still haven’t figured out if they are a load of crap or the real deal, but it did make for an interesting Thursday evening.
A Funny Thing Happened At The Blog Today… November 8, 2007

So I’ve been experimenting with different kinds of blog promotion lately. I’ve been using Digg for a few months, which has mainly helped me a handful of good contacts more than anything else. I’ve also used Shoutwire off and on, which is similar to Digg, but it’s a smaller audience and therefore it is a bit easier to get noticed there. Shoutwire has a “front page” concept similar to Digg, whereby new stories that get enough votes get “shouted” to the front page and your readership increases by a factor of 10 or more…
I got one story to the front page, the article on manipulation, and then I thought, hm, let me try putting one of my blog posts (Ten Unsexy Technologies…) on Shoutwire. That one got promoted to front page late last night.
So here’s what WordPress.com says my stats were for the past week:
Nov. 1: 19 views (a bit lower than average of late)
Nov. 2: 25 views (ditto)
Nov. 3: 37 views (getting closer to the way that the blog has been trending)
Nov. 4: 20 views (a bit lower again)
Nov. 5: 23 views (constant…)
Nov. 6: 133 views (possibly related to the manipulation article and maybe a bit of Shoutwire traffic?)
Nov. 7 : 124 views (possibly related to the manipulation article and maybe a bit of Shoutwire traffic?)
Nov. 8: as of 7:54 AM AST (6:54 Eastern Standard Time) …. 2521 views!!!! In about 12 hours. Note: as of 2:13 PM the revised total is 3402 views…
Now, I know very well that this is probably a fluke or a statistical anomaly based on some promotional work, so I’m not expecting to wake up tomorrow with another 2500 hits. Heck, if this helps me grow my audience permanently by 1% of that number, I’ll be quite happy.
Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise. So a big hello and thanks to you, Shoutwire readers!
