I don’t usually like video posts in blogs, but in honor of discovering that there are still a few XTC fans (this is the British band, not the bloody drug) in the world, I’ve posted a link to a promotional video the band made in the late 1980’s to support the Oranges and Lemons album.
It looks and sounds awful, worse than a Grade 4 student’s puppet show, but it still puts me in stitches every time I watch it. It deserves an award for creative use of a potato.

Certain groups of Christianity recognize today as All Saint’s Day.
Day of the Dead celebrations begin in Mexico.
It’s World Vegan Day.
Larry Flynt, Ralph Klein, Jenny McCarthy, and Toni Collette were all born on this day.
The city of Lisbon was destroyed by earthquake and tsunami on this date in 1755.
Shakepeare’s plays Othello and The Tempest debuted on Nov. 1 of two separate years.
Seabiscuit won his famous race, defeating War Admiral, on Nov. 1, 1938.
The Maastricht Treaty took effect on this date in 1993, formally establishing the European Union. (sorry, that was almost a direct quote from Wikipedia, if you can directly quote Wikipedia)
And, on another note, NaNoWriMo starts today. The link will tell you everything you need to know about it. Basically you have to write a short novel in 30 days. I signed up. I think my masochistic streak is showing.
Oh, and on a local note, today is the official opening of the last section of twinned highway in New Brunswick. The Trans Canada Highway is now a divided highway throughout the entire province. It took twenty years to complete the whole thing, but now it’s done. Now you can safely speed through the province of New Brunswick without having to worry about oncoming traffic.
And my car tire, which went flat and came off the rim yesterday, has been replaced. It’s working much better on that brand new highway.
So get out there and start November!
