Brain Broadcast - Manners August 10, 2007

I’ve been reading a few articles here and there concerning the supposed death of manners in the 21st century. I’m sure people were saying the same thing about previous decades and centuries. However, you really do see some nasty stuff online, in E-Mails, etc. I’m fortunately enough to live in a neighbourhood where there’s very little rudeness, but I know it’s out there.
Lynne Truss wrote an interesting book on the topic called “Talk To The Hand”. She also wrote “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves”, which examined the degrading use of punctutation. Both books, while they do go over the top a bit as Truss has a rather excitable “voice” in her writing, are definitely worth reading.
I think we all need to keep the Golden Rule in mind at all times: Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Short, simple, and potentially very effective.
